Soil Stabilization

Treating unsuitable subgrade in place so it can carry construction loads.

What This Covers

Stabilization applies when the subgrade will not support equipment, traffic, pavement or foundations. The alternative is excavation: digging out the unsuitable material, hauling it off site and importing aggregate to replace it, which carries both delay and cost.

Treatment is not a single recipe. Soil conditions, the intended use of the site, the load the ground must carry, the treatment depth, the additive and the moisture level all change how the work is specified. Where laboratory testing is requested, soil and aggregate samples are analysed to establish how the existing material will behave before anything is spread.

The result is a working platform built from material that was already on site.
