Full Depth Reclamation

Pulverizing existing pavement and blending it into a new stabilized base.

What This Covers

Full depth reclamation rebuilds a pavement using the pavement that is already there. The existing asphalt is pulverized, blended with the underlying material and any additive, then compacted into a new base.

Its structural advantage is that it removes the joint between old and new. Because the existing surface is broken up rather than overlaid, reflective cracking has nothing to propagate through, which is the usual failure mode when a deteriorated pavement is simply covered. Resistance to frost penetration in the subgrade improves for the same reason.

Where the underlying material carries excess moisture, job site drying is used first so the reclaimed base can reach compaction.
